What are you feeling right now?
As I write this, it is January 6th, 2016, the first week of the first month of a brand new never lived before year.
A clean slate lies before us.
What are you feeling? Are you remembering with fondness the year that lies behind us? Or are your memories tinged with regret, unfulfilled dreams and desires. When you look at your then and your now... do you feel satisfied or are you thirsty?
Thirsty for more?
If you're like me you don't care much for New Year's resolutions, but that doesn't stop you from wishing that this year perhaps you would be MORE. You know that pesky little suffix 'er' - the one that says that what we have now pales in comparison to what we could have - we could be better, slimmer, smarter, nicer, happier, richer... and on and on. We just need to do more... be more.
But my friends, here is the thing... we don't need more when we already have the MOST.
You see, we spend so much time looking inward, striving to be more... that sometimes we forget to look upward and remember that God... our God... He is ENOUGH! Perhaps we think if only I had more faith, but God gently and persistently reminds me that it is not the amount of my faith that matters but rather it is the object of my faith. And... He is ENOUGH! He satisfies every desire... every thirst.
Now, don't get me wrong, I am not saying that you shouldn't 'make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love' (2 Peter 1: 5-8) but God is saying that He has given us everything we need for a godly life. (2 Peter 1:3) He gives us His power to live our 'believe'. He truly is ENOUGH.
It is not our qualifications that prepare us for the ginormous task God has called us to... it is His presence with us... His promise never to leave us or forsake us. (Hebrews 13:5)
'When God wants to give us confidence, He doesn't applaud our gifts. He affirms His presence.' (First5.org)
So, as we stand on the edge of the summit of 2016 with all its unknown peaks and valleys and treacherous pathways... my wish for you is simply... Enough.
Over the past several 'New Years', I have reflected on this thought-provoking poem written by my dear friend, Andrea.
I hope it blesses you also.
My Wish for You
As we approach the New Year 2016, some of us with guarded optimism, others with skepticism, my simple wish for you is that you will always have enough.
Enough strength and courage to make difficult choices that will keep you true to yourself and your beliefs, to take the lessons of the past and use them as stepping stones into your future.
Enough gratitude and humility so that you may never forget where you have come from and use that knowledge to chart the course for where you wish to go, that you may not take anything or anyone for granted and that you remember fondly those who are no longer with us; that you would be grateful for the time that you knew them and that you are a better person because of them.
Enough of life's necessities that you may never go hungry or thread bare, that you may meet all your obligations financial or otherwise, and that there is enough to share with those less fortunate than you.
Enough faith that you can weather any storm in any area of your life and that your faith is enough to carry friends and family through difficult times that you believe that all your needs will be provided for.
Yes, as you stand at the brink of this New Year, my wish for you is, simply enough.
Have a happy and prosperous New Year!

ReplyDeleteThank you, Susan. Loved it.
DeleteLove this! "we don't need more when we already have the MOST." We can be content when we already have the MOST!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing? Every time I think about that... I mean really think about it... I'm blown away. Thanks for your kind encouragement.
DeleteCarli, I love this so much >>> we don't need more when we already have the MOST. When we can realize that very thing, then we find contentment in Jesus. So glad you linked up at The Loft this week. You are welcome here any time!!
ReplyDeleteI have to remind myself of that awesome truth daily.
DeleteThank you for your sweet encouragement, Leah.
Amen! He truly is Enough! And through Him, in Him, and with Him, we are enough - just as He created us. Thank you for sharing this! Blessings, Laura
